N-(2,6-Dimethylphenyl)-2-oxo-acetamide is an intermediate in the synthesis of rac-trans-N-(2,6-Dimethylphenyl)-4-methyl-1-(2-methylphenyl)-5-oxo-3-propylimidazolidine-2-carboxamide (D480822), the trans-isomer of N-(2,6-Dimethylphenyl)-4-methyl-1-(2-methylphenyl)-5-oxo-3-propylimidazolidine-2-carboxamide, an impurity of Prilocaine (Prilocaine Hydrochloride P725000). Prilocaine is a local anesthetic of the amino amide type and is often used in dentistry. Prilocaine is also often combined with lidocaine as a preparation for dermal anesthesia (lidocaine/prilocaine or EMLA) towards the treatment of conditions like paresthesia.
